Croydon Council
 
Croydon in a diverse and complex borough with around 337,000 residents. It is a three–star council, but is making rapid progress towards four stars. It is London’s largest borough in population terms and is seen as the economic and social capital of the South East. Croydon is also an important location for financial services in London outside the City, attracting over 140,000 workers from outside the borough.

Croydon Council employs more than 10,000 staff across all its services and schools and is always striving to work more efficiently and effectively.

Recent project

Croydon Council wanted its staff to be able to communicate using an electronic tablet PC, rather than paper and faxes. Adapto was called in to provide a tailored, mobile data solution that would allow staff to enter data on the tablet during visits to patients and send the information back to the office electronically. Working with 3G and partner Wireless Logic, a solution was developed and a 20-user pilot was set up with staff who work in the council’s HIV unit.

The solution, which helps eliminate mis-matched and duplicated data on the Patient Record System, has now been expanded to 200 users at Croydon Council working in Social Services’ Child and Adult Social Care teams.

The new system has improved staff morale and increased productivity and efficiency. If the pilot is successful, the tablet PCs could be rolled out to even more users.

Keith Mackey, IT Manager for Croydon Council, said: “Mobile working is the key to the future strategy of Croydon Council to help mobile workers and increase our communication links and extend our LAN to the remote worker and home worker. The project is just the start of the road to mobile and flexible working.”
