ABF, the Soldiers Charity, and Surrey ACF (Army Cadet Force), sponsored by Adapto, supplied Christmas trees to brighten up the festive season for Service personnel injured in the line of duty, based at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), Headley Court, and their carers.

At 2pm on 27 November, a number of Christmas trees were presented by Surrey ACF to the senior officers of DMRC staff, at Headley Court, Epsom, Surrey.

Adapto’s Managing Director, Ivan Greenaway, has close links to the armed forces having himself served 20 years in the British army. “Adapto are pleased to support the ABF, a charity close to our hearts,” explained Ivan. “In sponsoring a Christmas tree we hope to bring a little extra cheer to DMRC staff and service personnel during the festive season.”

ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity was set up 70 years ago to help the Army family and to provide a lifetime of support to soldiers, as well as former soldiers and their families who are often in need of financial support.

“We recognise that our soldiers have been there for us and it is our responsibility to be there for them now and in the future,” said Bob Thomas (Treasurer – Surrey), on behalf of the ABF. “ABF grants are made on the basis of need alone, and in many cases, we need to act fast by delivering them speedily and in the most cost effective manner. The charity also supports widows, children and parents. Last year the oldest person we helped was 107, and the youngest just 2 years old.”

About ABF – The Soldier’s Charity

ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity was set up 70 years ago to help the Army family and to provide a lifetime of support to soldiers, as well as former soldiers and their families who are often in need of financial support.

The need for ABF -The Soldiers’ Charity to help serving soldiers and their families has never been so great since the end of Word War II. It is especially poignant this year being the centenary of the start of World War I, and with our departure from Camp Bastion. At the end of September 2014, the number of UK fatalities in Afghanistan had risen to 453 with over 2,250 servicemen and servicewomen being seriously injured in action.

Last year, the charity made grants in excess of £7.9 million – a 30% increase on the previous year. £3 million was paid to 5,200+ individual cases. In Surrey, we paid £611,000, with a large donation of £355,000 to Combat Stress in Leatherhead, and further financial support to DMRC Headley Court. Grants to individuals in Surrey amounted to more than £200,000.
